Alesia Schumann vs. Amber Rose: Round 3

“Box!”

After receiving Rebecca’s signal, our fighters meet in the middle of the ring for the third round.

Amber starts strongly, with anticipation, landing a hard straight left hand between the gloves. Alesia is taken aback as she feels the white leather swat her face, another taste of the Russian-American’s power.

Alesia’s corner: “Come on! Don’t let her intimidate you!”

Amber’s corner: “That’s how it’s done. Bully her until she puts a knee down.”

Regina: A difficult start of the round for Schumann, who should be watched closely by the referee by now. Can she find a solution to Rose’s attacks or is she going to be overwhelmed?”

Shortly after finding her range with a jab, Amber socks Alesia with a hard right hand on the cheek. The contact between the white glove and the German’s face is picked up by microphones and by the fans in the first few rows. Alesia falls back to find space but Amber is coming after her.

“She’s better than this!”, yells a fan in the Munich crowd. “Come on!”

“Oh my God, a frustrated Alesia thinks. Her punches are so heavy. I need to change the tone to turn this around.”

Regina: “Rose is in control. This is her ring and it feels like she can do whatever she wants. She seems physically stronger, faster and obviously more confident at the moment. Meanwhile, Schumann has to go back to the basics. That is using her strengths, such as using defense to set up the counterattack.”

Alesia backs up and leans against the ropes and Amber launches an attack. The German puts her hands up and blocks everything, showing the defensive skills she has worked so hard on during the last few months.

Maxim: “Well done! Now strike hard!”

Regina: “On the one hand, this is a good defensive performance, but on the other hand, Schumann is not active enough. Many have done this before, and they all came back home without a belt.”

Alesia has been rocked by two shots, but she’s well aware of the problems she is facing, including the two white gloves that keep punishing her. She ignores her coach’s call to attack and switches to a defensive mode to regain some timing. Amber tries to connect with a left hook but the German ducks under it, much to the pleasure of the local fans. “Auf geht’s Ally! Kämpfen und Siegen!”

She has to risk having her head down to avoid this punch… but better do this than block it with your face. She thinks “baby steps”.

Regina: “This is a first good defensive effort on Schumann’s part against a perfectly thrown left hook. She needs to land something big to turn the momentum around, though.. Rose, on her part, has to keep her under pressure and hope she cracks.”

Alesia escaped a murderous left hook, but she doesn’t have the time to counterattack properly, so she plays it safe. She backs up and leans against the ropes while Amber launches an attack. The German puts her hands up and blocks everything, showing the defensive skills that were missing a bit earlier. Her gloves absorb the shock while her upper body makes the ropes bend under her weight.

Maxim: “Well done! Now look for space to strike hard!”

Regina: “On the one hand, this is a better defensive performance, but on the other hand, Schumann is not active enough. Many have done this in title fights before, and they all came back home without a belt. Only landing clean punches will make her a champion tonight. Rose can run away if this continues.”

Although she is in control, Amber sees that she is wasting energy when she punches in Alesia’s gloves. She pauses and looks at Alesia.

The challenger sees the opportunity to fight back. She quickly moves her left hand to throw a stiff punch in the champ’s direction.

Will it land?

Amber’s idea pays off. She sees an opening in Alesia’s guard as she throws a left hand, quickly making a motion for a right uppercut that crashes against her chin. The punch hurts the German so much that it weakens her legs and her mouthpiece flies up, out of her mouth.

Regina: “This is by far the best punch of the fight. Rose is playing Schumann’s own game by stopping to dictate the action and rock her with an uppercut. One has to wonder if they swapped gear during the last break.”

“Stop!”

Rebecca sends Amber to a neutral corner, picks up Alesia’s mouthpiece on the ground and goes to hand it to Maxim while Ally is slowly walking to him. He promptly cleans the plastic with water, takes his time to whisper something to his fighter and puts the mouthpiece back in.

Maxim: “Move sideways. Don’t stand in front of her. Find angles and spaces to counter her.”

Rebecca gets impatient: “BOX!”

Regina: “Unusually, Schumann’s mouthpiece flying out may be a good thing for her. She took her sweet time to walk back to her coach, who is stretching this as much as he can.”

Alesia finds new spring in her legs and Amber doesn’t seem to care much about putting everything behind furious attacks. Instead, she throws light punches and Alesia moves around to avoid them.

Amber’s corner: “Punish her now!”

Amber throws a jab, but the German reacts in time to avoid it, ducking to her left.

Maxim: “That’s it! Defense wins championships, baby!”

Regina: “Just what I thought would happen. Schumann is reacting better, but surprisingly, Rose does not apply much pressure on her in the dying seconds of the round. Is she playing the long game, wearing her down little by little?”

Ding!

“Stop!”

Rebecca tells the fighters to go back to their corners with the end of Round 3. We immediately go to Amber’s corner.

Coach: ‘What the fuck are you doing? You’re fooling around and giving her chances. That’s not intelligent.”

Amber: “Look, I’m not going to take all the risks here. Did you see her fight with Akane Watanabe? She took all the risks and got knocked out by one punch. Did you see her clobbering Anna Schwartz in one round? She forced her to throw. If I go all out, I risk getting countered to death!”

Coach: “Right, but don’t be too passive either. You just gave her a round that way. User your power to shake her up even more.”

On to Alesia’s corner. Her eyes have swelled, especially on the right side.

Maxim: “You have to fight back or I’ll throw in the towel. Tell me how you’re feeling.”

Alesia: “This is tough but I don’t want to open up too much. I have to play it safe to win. I think this girl is a hard hitter.”

Maxim: “This isn’t working. You need to land power shots on the counter. Keep moving and strike as soon as you have a chance.”

He treats her face and puts her mouthpiece back in before the fight restarts.
