Virani MacVicar vs. Kayleigh Parsons 2 – Round 2

Commentator: “‘The fluke’ seems intent on proving that first round was indeed just that. She has seemingly changed tactics, opting for a more cautious approach with plenty of movement. And just as MacVicar looked to throw, she gets stuffed with a solid jab from the Englishwoman. Applause from the crowd for that jab, as the local crowd looks to encourage the local fighter.”

Virani: Well, a bit of different tactics from Kayleigh now. I had thought that she might come out furious and thus I prepared to throw some counters, but she seems very tactical and calculated at the moment. The first 10 or 15 seconds is cagey as she looks to use her footwork to confuse me. As she finally stands in front for a moment, I prepare to throw a right hand, but she stuffs her glove right into my face with a jab. Okay. That’s how it’s going to be, I guess.

Thomas: A part of me was hoping that Kayleigh would continue to fight undisciplined, but that appears to be too much to hope for. Now she’s showing some of the skills she is know for. Let’s see if Virani can cope.

Commentator: “Parsons is a much different fighter here in the second round, and the change of tactics and style does seem to be confounding MacVicar slightly as punches that she might have landed in the first are now only hitting air. Now Virani misses with a speculative left hook and Kayleigh is there to pounce before Virani can cover up, landing a solid right hook that sends the sweat flying from Virani’s head. Nice punch there from Parsons! The crowd is in agreement with that as they salute the local fighter.”

Virani: Okay well this is the Kayleigh I was expecting to fight. Guess I might have woken the dragon after that first round. I gotta be better with my defence too, especially resetting after punches, given that Kayleigh loves to fight on the counter. Tighten up, Virani!

Thomas: Well, it was too much to expect that this might be an easy fight…

Commentator: “This has been a far better round for Parsons, but it is not as if she is steamrolling MacVicar. The Canadian has absorbed Kayleigh’s punches without much complaint, though that is certain to change if the punches keep accumulating. The Canadian switches things up, moving forward behind a pair of jabs to the head. She then changes level and lands a solid jab to the body. A nice bit of boxing from MacVicar as she shows her ability to string together punches. This Cobra is quick and decisive, and she seems to be playing the long game.”

Virani: I’m facing in this round a version of Kayleigh Parsons that I expected to fight. Calculated and calm, but then capable of unleashing power punches at any time. I know to fight this, I can’t simply sit back and defend. Nor can I just lunge in recklessly. A slugfest probably does favour me, but I’m not interested in diving headfirst into that for sure. So I move forward behind a pair of jabs to make Kayleigh raise her guard, before setting my eye towards my real target – Kayleigh’s midsection. I only land a jab to the body, but that is a punch that stings, and can take your breath from you for a moment.

Thomas: “That’s it, Virani!” Keep up that good work, this is the kind of offense I like to see from her. Measured. And setting up potential for other punches down the line.

Commentator: “This round seems to be petering out a bit. Nowhere near as action packed as some of the other rounds that these two have put on…but then Kayleigh changes the angle and whacks Virani with a solid left hook. That one went right through Virani’s guard and landed very nicely on the Canadian. In the first fight, Kayleigh’s power punches really hurt Virani, and it ended with a knockout loss. Will Virani be able to endure these punches better?”

Virani: Kayleigh is being tricky this round and it’s been hard to sort out her movements, with the shoulder rolls and feints she is throwing. She freezes me with a quick fake before unleashing a left hook that has me flatfooted to defend. It lands hard and twists my head around. Oof. That was Kayleigh’s biggest punch of the fight so far. That’s the power I remember.

Commentator: “After that left hook, it seems as if Virani has decided to break up the flow of the action with a clinch. The two fighters seem to be exchanging words while in close quarters as well…”

Kayleigh: “Enjoy that last punch, did ya?”

Virani: “I’ve been hit harder. I put you on the canvas last round, though.”

Kayleigh: “For the last time.”

Virani: “You wish.”

Clarissa: “Okay, all right you two, break!”

Commentator: “Parsons continues to come forward and land the more decisive punches of the two Featherweights. The Fluke has really put Virani through her paces in this round and it seems like the Canadian Cobra is a bit slow to react. Maybe there is a difference in class here that is starting to emerge. As we get to the last ten seconds of the round, Kayleigh lands another good punch to the body! Parsons has come out in this round with a decisive plan and she has seemingly won this round quite decisively.”

Virani: I try to bring my shoulders together to protect myself against the incoming punch, but the angle is too awkward and it lands in my midsection nonetheless. Her punch brings a grunt out of me. Kayleigh does know how to throw well to the body, I’ll give her that for sure. But I’m concentrating on surviving the rest of the round without taking more punishment. I know this round is lost, no point in taking more punishment fighting for a lost round. I last until the bell without anything further landing. Hmm. Bad round for me.

Commentator: “A comeback round from Kayleigh Parsons has sent the fighters to their corners with some different thoughts on their minds than the first round. Let’s listen in.”

Thomas: “How are you feeling, V?”

Virani: “I’m fine. Lost that round though.”

Thomas: “We knew this wasn’t going to be easy. I need you to be a bit more active in there, mix it up a bit. We know Kayleigh is good with her counters, so I don’t want you to be reckless, but see if you can get Kayleigh’s notice with some punches.”

Virani: “Are you seeing anything that I can take advantage of?”

Thomas: “Not yet. I just want to to up the pressure on her, and see if she will make another mistake.”

Virani: “Okay boss.”

In Kayleigh’s corner:

Jim: “That’s much better from you, babe. You can outbox this Canadian chick all day.”

Kayleigh: “I haven’t hurt her yet though.”

Jim: “You’re two rounds into the fight, Kayleigh. Virani is good enough not to walk into your counters without prompting. So you’re going to have to set some traps. Lure her in and then strike. Try to go to the body this round too. This might be a long fight, and I want you to take the starch out of this girl a bit. We know she’s not that durable. The knockout opportunities will come”

Kayleigh: “I’ll size them when I see it.”

Jim:When you see it. Don’t force it. Otherwise you’ll be in trouble. Respect her power and ability, babe.”

Kayliegh: “I do.” Grudgingly.
