Defiant underdog, smug local fave

It’s fight night in San Antonio, Texas. We tune in to join the Star Sports 2 broadcasting crew as Chelsea Carter sets to step into the ring to fight Christine Spencer.

Jim: “Hello and welcome to Star Sports Boxing. I’m Jim Brooks alongside Warren Sharp to call five bouts. The evening’s opener features Christine Spencer and Chelsea Carter.”

Warren: “Two young prospects are stepping into the ring tonight. Their records do not tell their whole stories. Spencer is the new promoters’ darling after a standout knockout win against Ellen Fuller a few weeks back. A farmer’s daughter, the Texan had timid beginnings, but having defeated a well-regarded fighter soundly makes her a special attraction in women’s boxing.”

Jim: “Chelsea Carter is more of a dark horse. She only had two fights thus far and has the reputation of a light puncher, something she has been working to correct. Her hope is that pulling off the upset here will make her name.”

Warren: “The boxers are ready to enter the stage. Let’s watch the introductions.”

The ladies enter

Ring announcer: “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Chelsea Carter!”

The San Franciscan walks out enthusiastically, followed by Mercedes, and raises her arms in the air as Made in Hell by Halford plays in the arena.

The young woman sings the lyrics as she approaches the ring. Mercedes climbs in the red corner, but her fighter takes a few more steps to greet her friend Alesia Schumann.

The fighter keeps singing as she taps Ally’s hand.

Hell, we’re born to raise some hell.
Hell, we’re gonna raise some hell!

Alesia: “Hehe!”

Entrance Chelsea

Jim: “Carter comes across as happy to be here, and very confident. Shall we say that she puts the hell into Chelsea?”

Warren: “It will take our viewers a while to recuperate from that pun. Anyway. Note that Carter stopped by to bump fists with Alesia Schumann, the German Super Lightweight champion who recently defended her title. These two have natural chemistry.”

Jim: “It’s an unusual friendship. Trained by amateur star Mercedes Carter, Chelsea went to an amateur tournament in London and defeated Schumann’s younger sister in the Lightweight final, out of nowhere. An impressed Alesia went to meet Chelsea. In front of the cameras, she promised her a fight if she were to reach a similar level on the world stage.”

Ring announcer: “Now please welcome Christine Spencer!”

The crowd shouts a loud greeting to the local fave, who stops midway through her entrance to scan the arena. She makes her way through the ring while saluting her fans. The speakers blast the song Bitch by the Rolling Stones.

Jim: “Spencer made waves by telling a TV station that she would enjoy crushing Carter, and that there should be a stretcher right next to the ring to take her out as soon as she’s done.”

Introductions

Ring announcer: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back for the first televised bout of the evening. Six rounds of boxing in the Lightweight division. Introducing first… fighting out of the red corner. She is wearing red and black. At 22 years of age, she comes from San Francisco, California and is coached by Mercedes Carter. Her record stands at one win and one loss. Her name is Chelsea ‘High Voltage’ Carrrrrterrrrrrrrrr!”

A handful of people applaud, and a few boos are heard across the arena. Chelsea greets them with a confident pose and a defiant smile.

Jim: “The Carter cousins don’t look intimidated at all. I would even say that Chelsea relishes the role of underdog against the local.”

Introduction Chelsea

Ring announcer: “Her opponent across the ring fights out of the blue corner. She is wearing pink and white. Aged 21, she comes from Alpine, here in Texas! She is coached by Tony Palmer. Her record stands at 5 wins and 4 losses. The southern belle… her name is Christine ‘Pristine’ Spennnnnncerrrrrrrr!”

Once again, the local gets almost all the love from the crowd. She hardens her entire upper body to show Chelsea who has more muscle mass.

Warren: “Spencer has a more intimidating presence than her opponent. If she work according to her regular game plan, she will shove Carter around and punch when she destabilised. Recent opponents have not enjoyed the game of coercion.”

Introduction Christine

Cut-throat atmosphere

Referee Jeffrey Cain calls the fighters to the middle of the ring for the usual instructions.

Jeffrey: “We went over the unified rules in the dressing rooms. This fight is scheduled for six rounds of two minutes. There is no three-knockdown rule. There is no standing eight-count. You cannot be saved by the bell in any round. If you knock your opponent down, you have to go to a neutral corner before I start a count. If you foul intentionally, I will deduct a point. Got questions? No? Have a good, clean fight. Touch gloves.”

Christine: “I was strong enough to move a cow when I was a kid. Tonight, I’m beating one up.”

Chelsea: “You sure smell like one.”

The southern girl bangs her gloves on top of Chelsea’s. Although the brunette tries to keep her arms up, they go down under the sheer force of the white haired girl.

Jeffrey: “To your corners, now!”

The crowd cheers pre-match intensity.

In the blue corner, the local boxer is confident.

Christine: “Tall, but weak upper body. I’ll bulldoze it.”

In the red corner, the opponent is not impressed.

Chelsea: “Arrogant little prick. I’m sure that even her cattle doesn’t like her.”

Mercedes laughs.

Jim: “The stage is set for Christine Spencer to fight Chelsea Carter after a hostile pre-match routine. The first round is next.”
