High Voltage blows a fuse

San Francisco – We are at the Argonaut Hotel for the press conference ahead of the fight between Chelsea Carter and Allison Felix.

Announcer: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome. We have an exciting semi-final scheduled for six rounds at the Cow Palace on Saturday night. Two local women who fight in the Lightweight division, and there is bad blood between them. Introducing first is Chelsea ‘High Voltage’ Carter, ranked 21st worldwide. She has three fights on record, including two wins and one knockout. The floor is yours.”

The brunette gets up from her seat to give an animated speech.

Chelsea: “Hi everyone! Why are we here? Because we have a fight, but there’s a reason why I’m set to have a contest with Allison Felix. Blondie over there believes that she can tell the boxing world who’s the real deal and who’s a fraud, like some kind of high-seated judge although she’s a little small. She thinks that the fight game is all about taking punches until your opponent is too tired to continue. I have news for her. This isn’t a Rocky film and she will eat her words.”

Announcer: “Harsh sayings from an up and coming fighter. Next is Allison herself. Ranked, 19th, she has four knockout wins and one defeat as a professional. Allison?”

She also gets up before speaking, with a stern tone.

Allison: “Look what we have here. A former ballerina who wants to tussle with a fighter.”

Chelsea: “Former gymnast, you twerp.”

Allison: “As I said: ballerina. She dances on her toes and has a feathery touch in the punching department. I’m always up for a good scrap and unlike this little prima donna, I can hit. I can take anything she throws my way, and then some, before pounding that fragile little face into ground beef. This isn’t going to be the cakewalk with a look-at-my-backside victory lap she had six months ago in Texas. Silver spoon is going to need gold teeth once I’m through with her!”

Your Highness

Chelsea is fuming at all the name calling, but the question period with a focus on coaches calms things down. Mercedes explains that her boxer has picked up skills and techniques that will be major strategic advantages in this fight. Frank Harding says that his own protégée can wear any opposition down, and that the plan won’t change for Chelsea.

All seems back to normal until Chelsea gets up and steps forward for a couple of pictures. The Pest gets right in her face for further verbal abuse.

Allison: “Look at Miss Superstar who wants to pose for the cameras. Will any of that go on your fake, plastic Instagram, Your Highness?”

Chelsea: “I’ll punch you enough to give dementia.”

Allison: “And in my dementia, I’ll always remember how I shattered the finely sculpted glass princess that was Chelsea Carter.”

Chelsea: “I’m done with your shit. See you at the weigh-in.”

Proud of her disengagement, Chelsea turns around with a smile. The next thing you know, though, Allison gives her a perfectly timed kick in the buttocks to make her fall forward.

Allison: “Don’t turn your back on me, Chelsea Carter! You’re putting the cow in coward!”

The tackle

The voltage goes so high that Chelsea blows a fuse. She turns around, dashes and tackles Allison like an NFL linebacker going for the sack. Shoulder first in her stomach. She falls on top of a stunned Pest.

Coaches jump in to separate the two fighters, who get up slowly and get surely pushed away from each other.

Chelsea: “I’ll blast you into orbit, you fucking turd!”

Allison: “Someone call NASA. We’re ready for take-off!”

Announcer: “I think it’s a wrap. Can you smell the intensity here?”

Behind the scenes

Chelsea: “There’s a fucking limit!”

Mercedes: “Yer right, but nice tackle. I hear the 49ers be lookin’ for a new safety. Ever thought of joinin’ the draft?”

They laugh out loud.

Allison: “That was fun.”

Frank: “That was well done. Many people will hate you for it, but she will be distracted at ringside.”
