Aged 24, Chelsea “High Voltage” Carter is ranked number 4 worldwide in the Super Lightweight division. She wants to return to her winning ways after suffering a loss to Taylor Grant.

“I’ve heard there is a strong boxing culture in Montréal and I’m more than happy to go there for my first contest on Canadian soil. Local fans will be so delighted by my performance that they’ll ask government to give me honorary citizenship.”

Aged 28 and ranked number 5 in the division, Chloé “Oiseau de malheur” Potvin also is looking for a new spell of success after losing a world championship match by decision against Alesia Schumann.

“I have news for Chelsea. We don’t grant citizenship to visitors who come here to get knocked the fuck out. She’s going down hard and finding out that some Canadians aren’t as nice as people think.”

Finding a name

The matchmaking was generally straightforward because the two camps were looking for the same thing.

Mercedes proposed the deal to Chelsea at the gym in Detroit.

Mercedes: “So, gotta keep ya busy while Ally is gettin’ ready for a title match before facin’ ya. We got options and I narrowed it to one. It be perfect. Chloé Potvin.”

Chelsea: “OooOOO. That’s exciting.”

Mercedes: “She be perfect. Got a name. Well ranked. Beatable. There’s money to make by goin’ to her backyard cuz da locals gonna show up and they know ya.”

Chelsea: “If we go there, gotta have some of our conditions.”

Mercedes: “I know. We ain’t takin’ a local ref and there’ got to be plenty of money.”

Physical with the Peach

The Chelsea camp invites Emma McGale to training because she shares physicality with Chloé. It’s a rough experience because the Canadian likes to take you in. She manhandles the American.

The red glove Chelsea was staring at comes in very quickly to collide with the middle of her face.

Chelsea: “Oomph!”

Mercedes: “Come on, pork chop! Fight back!”

Chelsea thinks: “I can grab, hold and punch too.”

High Voltage goes electric on the Peach. An attempt to throw the right uppercut goes badly for Emma when she feels Chelsea’s right arm under the shoulder and an orange glove in her jaw. Kapow!

In Québec City, news that Chelsea signed the contract are most welcome.

Chloé: “Chelsea Carter, huh? That’s good. Real good.”

Vanessa: “She can box with the minor leaguers and knock them out, but at this level? We saw what Taylor Grant did to her. It’s new meat to chew on, with a name, but not durable.”

Chloé: “I’ll knock her out.”

Vanessa: “Yeah. We’re starting camp in a couple of days.”

Queen of slick

Former opponent Taylor Grant asks for a premium price, plus a luxury hotel to join Chloé’s camp but agrees to terms and comes to Québec.

Chloé: “You’re fucking expensive.”

Taylor: “I never said I was affordable.”

They get to work under Vanessa’s guidance. With knowledge of Chelsea’s tactics, including ‘mirror’ boxing. It gives the Québécoise fits but she adapts to the switch hitting.

Oiseau de malheur finds space and timing with some practice. Even some creativity. Taylor’s chin is on the receiving end of punches she didn’t receive the last time they fought.
