Bad Blood

The fallout of a controversial ending

As the now former champion is looked after by her coach and medical personnel, two very special friends bowl into the ring, with security realizing that they couldn’t stop Alesia Schumann or Emma McGale if they tried.

Virani’s closest boxing friends join Sandra as they embrace the new Featherweight champion of the world.

Alesia: “You were always a champion, but now it’s official.”

Emma: “Congratulations, champ.”

Sandra: “You left it late, you made it nervous, but you got it done. You won the big one, Virani.”

Virani: “Thanks everyone. Without each and every one of you, I would not have been able to do it. I love you guys. I’M A CHAMPION!!!!”

Michaela Sommer now has to watch the Canadian Cobra celebrate a second time. This time, it stings extra hard as now she is a former champion.

Axel: “How are you. Okay? Want to stand?”

Michaela: “Just like I told the doctor. I’ll be fine. What happened, coach? I was on top for so long, I don’t understand.”

Axel: “Do you remember the elbow?”

Michaela: “…vaguely.”

Axel: “Well one, that means you clearly got concussed. Two, that means you didn’t take long enough to recover from the foul.”

Michaela: “What the fuck? She elbowed me and didn’t get disqualifed? No wonder my head is spinning. She couldn’t do that shit with a legal punch.”

Axel: “This isn’t the time.”

Michaela: “Like, fuck ‘it’s not the time’. I got my title taken away from me. I’m not letting that go.”

Axel: “It’s not the time for this. There’s a time and a place, but it’s not now.”

New Champion

Although one fighter hasn’t mentally accepted the result, that doesn’t mean that the usual pagentry can be stopped.

Mechelle Gauthier having given the task of being a ring announcer, gets the attention of the crowd as only one as lovely as she can do.

Mechelle: “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner to this contest at one minute and twenty two of the fifth round… and NEW WBU Featherweight CHAMPION OF THE WORLD – Virani ‘The Canadian Cobra’ MacVicar!”

Akane Watanabe raises the arm of Virani, while Michaela, obviously still seething, pulls away from the referee as soon as she is able.

Laila: “You always remember your first. Virani MacVicar becomes one of the few that can claim to be a boxing champion. It was not an easy path but all in all, one that has been fully earned. Congratulations, Virani.”

A lovely moment between friends as Alesia Schumann does the honor of putting the WBU title around the waist of her friend and former competitor, Virani.

Alesia: “Can’t buy something like this in the store. It can only be earned.”

Virani: “Blood, sweat and tears were all worth it, just to end up here.”

Laila Ali comes into the ring to conduct an interview with the new, and former champions. First up, the woman of the moment – Virani MacVicar, looking stunning with the black and gold WBU title around her waist

Laila: “Congratulations, Virani. What’s going through your mind right now?”

Virani: “Songbirds are playing music in my mind, but that might just be from the punches Michaela gave me. Seriously, this is what I worked so hard to accomplish. I got into boxing because I loved it, and it gave me freedom from my old life, but when I started I never imagined this. Now I’m here. It’s surreal. Totally surreal.”

Laila: “This one was more heated than most of your fights, how did it get that way?”

Virani: “Two fighters wanting to do everything to win. Michaela stepped over the line first, though. That shot to the back of the head was intentional.”

Laila: “And the elbow you landed?”

Virani: “I couldn’t have done that even if I tried. The referee spotted the foul, and deducted a point. I never protested. Michaela was the one that restarted the fight right away. It was a fight. It was intense. I knocked her out. Case closed as far as I’m concerned.”

Laila: “Is there any reason that fights with Michaela attract so much controversy?”

Virani: “She’s the one with the complaints.”

Laila: “What’s next for you?”

Virani: “I honestly do not know. I didn’t think about what happened if I won, or if I lost. Defending my championship at home, though, seems like the right thing to do.”

Laila: “Anyone you want to thank?”

Virani: “Thomas Nagy for getting me started. Emma McGale for being the best friend and confidant I can ask for – a real boxing nerd! Alesia Schumann for her generosity and friendship even across the ocean. Sandra Blohm for being a tough coach when I needed it. The team at Final Bell that made this possible. I’ve interacted with so many people on this journey and each of them has a little part of my success. Thank you all, and thank you, Bremen!”

Laila: “The new WBU Featherweight champion, Virani MacVicar.”

Laila then turns her attention to Michaela Sommer. The former champion is still seething and it’s obvious to Laila and those ringside.

Laila: “Michaela, your reaction to the fight?”

Michaela: “I got robbed by a cheat. Simple as that. She can’t win fair, but somehow she has two wins over me. I don’t understand it.”

Laila: “Can you elaborate?”

Michaela: “Sure. Everyone loves Virani, the beautiful girl with the hands of stone. But she was fouling me all over the place tonight because she couldn’t handle the better, more powerful woman. Holding and hitting, elbowing, pushing me? This should have been an MMA match.”

Laila: “Are you then calling for a rematch? She’s won two against you…”

Michaela: “If this cheat wants to prove she’s a real champion, she’ll give me the rematch I deserve. And if she can beat me without fouls, then to heck with it, I’ll retire, I’ll donate my purse to charity, but I guarantee you that this ‘Cobra’ doesn’t want a rematch. She’ll dodge me forever.”

Virani can’t sit on the side and listen to this. She gets up in Michaela’s face. Alesia and Emma get in close to make sure further blows aren’t thrown.

Virani: “You are such a sore loser! How is it never your fault when you lose, bitch?”

Michaela: “Pretty rich from a fighter who was on her way to getting knocked out when you decided to start cheating!”

Virani: “I’m not a cheat, I’m a CHEETAH! Compared to you, I’m a god damn goddess of fair play. You’re the one that hit me on the back of the head intentionally! That shit’s dangerous! You know that!”

Michaela: “An elbow on the jaw is much less dangerous, you are right!”

Virani: “That wasn’t intentional, you idiot! And you were the one that said you were okay and let the fight continue!”

Michaela: “Fuck you, you’ve always just been a hype job that gets away with everything. You’re everything I hate in the boxing world. Give me one last chance. If you beat me fair, then I’ll let this go. But if you won’t fight me, I’ll haunt you until the end of your days, because you know that in a fair fight, I will leave your pretty ass out cold on the canvas. And that’ll be the end of precious pretty Virani.”

Virani: “Rematch? Sure! I will knock you cold for ruining my moment by running your mouth, you ungrateful snot. I beat you twice and now you want a third helping. I’ll spank you so bad you’ll be thinking about it the rest of your life.”

Michaela: “See you in the ring, bitch.”

Finally having said her piece, Michaela leaves the ring to scattered applause from the fans.

Emma: “It’s still your moment, we need to celebrate.”

Alesia: “Did you really say you were a Cheetah?”

Virani: “What do you want from me, Shakespeare?”

Alesia: “You’re a psycho.”

Emma: “Come on, let’s do the pose that we talked about!”

Virani: “Of course, my little boxing nerd.”

Emma: “I’m in a higher weight class than you, dummy.”

The friends gather around for an elaborate pose, caught by the flock of reporters at ringside who capture the moment for posterity.

Virani thinks: Champion of the world. Not bad. Not bad at all.
